So Omaha has been bandying about the idea of installing streetcars. I would love this. If it runs on rails, then I'm excited. Of course, the mayor wants to form a "task force" to study economic costs and benefits, blah blah blah, for $200,000+. I'll give you my ideas for free. Here's what I would do if mayor and the federal government wrote me a check (Like they did for our worthless but pretty pedestrian bridge).
Here's the map I made with Google maps with the routes I think would be best: Self-proposed Streetcar Routes.
Let me know what you think in the comments. Collaborating on the map could be fun.
Peace

Nice maps! Any streetcars in Omaha would be really awesome. I think that to be successful, the best rail system would link major commercial areas between each other and to residential areas.
I think a tighter loop through downtown and the Old Market that links up the Qwest Center and NoDo would be a good first step. It would likely see regular use from the hotels in NoDo that serve the Qwest, and obviously the airport. It might also bring the foot traffic in the Old Market and NoDo together. With that loop established, sending out big lines to the other major commercial centers of Omaha might be the next best step (like you've done).
I agree that sending a line out to West Omaha might not make its investment back. Suburbia likes its cars.
